These days, almost everyone recognizes the Canada Goose logo, whether it's on a jacket or another piece of clothing. The Canada Goose clothing brand has become one of the most popular winter coat brands in recent years. It all began for the brand in a small warehouse in Toronto some sixty years ago. Today, Canada Goose is a market leader in luxury (winter) clothing. Over the years, the brand has developed truly unique coats for even more special occasions. In this blog post, we'll take you on a journey through the years!

1950

In 1950, Sam Tick emigrated from Poland to Canada. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he founded Metro Sportswear Ltd. in Toronto in 1957, specializing in wool vests, raincoats, and snowmobile suits. This, of course, later became "Canada Goose." As the company grew, David Reiss (Sam Tick's son-in-law) strengthened the business in 1970. He ushered in a new era for Metro Sportswear with the invention of a unique down-filling machine. He also founded the "Snow Goose" label, which later became the well-known "Canada Goose." Over the years, the company continued to expand and developed new models and materials.

1980 - 1990

In 1980, the first Expedition Parka was developed, inspired by one of the coldest places on Earth. This jacket was designed to meet the needs of scientists at the Antarctic research station, ensuring they wouldn't suffer from the cold during their work. After the Expedition Parka, the clothing brand soon faced a new challenge: developing a jacket for Laurie Skreslet, a Canadian mountaineer. He made history in 1982 by becoming the first Canadian to climb Mount Everest, wearing a Canada Goose jacket. This jacket was re-released in 2011 as the Skreslet Parka (sadly, it's no longer available).

1990s

Dani Reiss, son of David Reiss and grandson of Sam Tick, joined the company in 1997 and became CEO of Canada Goose in 2001. Under Dani Reiss' leadership, the company grew enormously. Despite this significant growth, the brand pledged to remain "made in Canada." Brand growth was not to come at the expense of quality.

2000 +

The brand enjoyed some remarkable years. In 2000, Canada Goose partnered with Lance Mackey, a competitor in the Yukon Quest (a sled dog race in Alaska). Canada Goose also developed a special jacket for Lance Mackey, of which only a few were sold (we managed to get our hands on one). Wearing the jacket, Lance Mackey won four times, setting a world record. A few years later, Canada Goose made its big screen debut. From that point on, several Canada Goose jackets were featured in the films "The Day After Tomorrow" and "National Treasure." This further increased Canada Goose's popularity.

To give back to nature, in 2007 the brand joined forces with Polar Bears International, an organization dedicated to preserving and supporting polar bear habitats and wildlife. Special PBI jackets were designed, and the proceeds from every PBI jacket sold go to the PBI Foundation. The familiar blue jackets with the PBI logo are still available from us.

2010's

The Canada Goose brand continues to grow and become increasingly popular. To ensure sufficient production of jackets, the company opened a new factory in Winnipeg in 2010. In the following years, the brand continued to innovate and experimented with lightweight items for various weather conditions. The Canada Goose product range became increasingly diverse.

In 2014, Canada Goose opened its global headquarters in Toronto. The company was recognized by the government for employing a remarkable 6% of Canada's entire textile industry. Finally, in 2016, Canada Goose opened its first two flagship stores in Toronto and New York. The stores offered customers the widest selection of products, colors, and styles of unique, exclusive "Arctic" products.
