The end of the year is approaching, and the holidays are just around the corner. Before the holidays begin, two other exciting days are also coming up: the two most popular shopping days of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On these days, many stores offer their products at significant discounts, including Tip de Bruin. But what exactly are Black Friday and Cyber Monday? They might seem like one big marketing stunt, but in reality, they're a completely different story.

HOW DID BLACK FRIDAY AND CYBER MONDAY COME TO BE?

As the end of November approaches, the term "Black Friday" is increasingly common. How did it originate? Many believe Black Friday has a commercial character. What many people probably don't know is that Black Friday originated with retailers! This special day first took place in Philadelphia, where stores are always crowded on the first day after Thanksgiving. Because consumers spontaneously started visiting all the stores on this Friday, the stores collectively decided to offer substantial discounts. This is how "shopping" on Black Friday originated in 1961. From that point on, Black Friday has been a special day on which discounts are given to consumers.

Cyber Monday is also related to Thanksgiving and is linked to Black Friday. The first Monday after Thanksgiving is called "Cyber Monday" and marks the start of Christmas sales at online stores. Cyber Monday was first held in 2005 as both a counterpart and an extension of Black Friday. It's common knowledge that stores are bustling with people on this "Black Friday," often resulting in chaos. Store inventory was often limited, frequently leading to fights as consumers grabbed the newest clothes, shoes, and fragrances from each other. Online stores saw this as an opportunity to launch a day with online-only offers: Cyber Monday was born. This way, you don't have to go to the crowds to shop at a discount!

After these "traditions" arrived from America, many Dutch companies have given them their own twist. Companies offer special offers all weekend, and it's essentially one big discount frenzy in stores: Cyber Monday is also available in stores, and online discounts are also offered on Black Friday.

HOW DO THESE DISCOUNT DAYS WORK?

Now you're probably wondering how stores can suddenly offer such huge discounts. We have an answer to that too! "Many Black Friday deals are a special collaboration between manufacturers and stores." For example, with manufacturers, an agreement is made that the retailer will purchase a large number of products at a lower price. This allows the consumer to buy the product at a discount (NOS, 2018).

This also applies to Tip de Bruin. Several clothing brands are offering us discounts on specific products, which we can then apply to these days.
