Chester Perry vs. CP Company

CP stands for Chester Perry. Chester Perry is the name of the factory where Frank Dickens's comic strip hero, Bristow, works. The founder named the brand after one of his favorite comics. However, due to a lawsuit in 1978, the name was changed from Chester Perry to CP Company.

The innovation of CP Company

From the very beginning, CP Company was innovative thanks to its new dyeing techniques. The intense, deep colors used were characteristic of the brand. For printing on clothing, Massimo, CP Company's founder and designer, employed methods then only used for paper. He used the photocopier, screen printing, and the four-color process.

The 'Goggle Jacket'

A signature element of CP Company is, of course, the goggles, which are incorporated into various garments, such as the goggle jacket , where lenses are integrated into the hood. The idea for the lenses originated from the design of the "Explorer Jacket," which was designed for a sports brand as a field jacket with four pockets and lenses extending from the collar. After further research, CP Company produced several prototypes throughout 1987. These prototypes, along with the gas masks used in the military, sparked a new idea among the designers: moving the lenses to the hood, similar to ski goggles. In contemporary designs, the lenses can still be seen in various garments.
