Woolrich is also called "The Outdoor Clothing Company," and for good reason. The clothing brand has been producing luxurious and functional outdoor apparel for over 190 years. Woolrich, which began as "Woolrich Woolen Mills," has been known since its founding in 1830 for its comfortable, warm clothing and recognizable red and black pattern. Woolrich also contributed to American history during the war. Curious about Woolrich's history? The timeline
Woolrich was founded in 1830 when John Rich opened a wool mill in Pennsylvania. With his passion for the outdoors, John Rich saw an opportunity to develop outerwear designed specifically for changing weather conditions. From that moment on, Woolrich garments have reflected the American dream: "Wear Woolrich to pursue your goals, no matter the weather."
After years of development, Woolrich introduced the Buffalo Check shirt in 1850; this marked the beginning of the famous Woolrich check pattern that can still be found on Woolrich clothing today. This red and black pattern has been a recurring theme in the brand's collections since its inception.
In 1880, the brand began developing casual wear alongside its outdoor clothing. This truly catapulted the brand to growth, and Woolrich's reputation grew. When the United States entered the First World War in 1917-1918, Woolrich decided to contribute; the company began large-scale production of rugs and blankets for soldiers. Thanks to its years of experience in outdoor clothing, these blankets provided soldiers with excellent protection from the cold.
Conscious design
With Mother Nature in mind, Woolrich designs sustainable products for every season. The materials and technology used in the production techniques ensure that the garments are suitable for all weather conditions. The brand's slogan has been "Woolrich, We Keep America Warm" since its inception. Today, Woolrich remains true to its core values: progress, travel, and a positive attitude in a world where you turn setbacks into opportunities. For nearly two hundred years, nature has been Woolrich's inspiration. Woolrich is therefore committed to combating climate change, primarily by focusing on high-quality, durable products.
