The new year has been here for a while now, and it's already February. February 1st is a special day in China; it marks the start of the Chinese New Year, a fifteen-day festival. During this festival, people pay tribute to family and past traditions. Each year in China is associated with an animal according to a 12-year cycle. The year 2022 is entirely dedicated to the tiger, the king of all beasts. The tiger symbolizes strength, bravery, and the exorcism of evil. Kenzo, the brand of the tiger, has designed a unique collection especially for the Chinese New Year. A good opportunity to tell you more about the popular French clothing brand, known for its tiger illustrations for years.

The origin

Before we discuss Kenzo's new "tiger" collection, let's delve into a bit of history. Kenzo was founded by Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada. His success began when he opened his first boutique in Paris in 1970, called "Jungle Jab." This store was actually decorated with a jungle theme. The leading American magazine Vogue predicted in 1971 that Kenzo's designs would become the new trend in Paris. Nothing could be further from the truth; Takada quickly became known for combining his unique Japanese traditional clothing with unique prints and innovative materials.

The tiger

On his 60th birthday, Kenzo announced his retirement. This left his assistants at the helm of the Kenzo brand. In 2011, designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took over as creative directors. The new creative designers wanted to bring Kenzo into the modern era. While digging through the Kenzo archives, they noticed that various wristbands, bags, and watches featured a small tiger on the inside. Since the designers were already searching for Kenzo's new emblem, they thought the "Tiger" would be a perfect fit. Thus, the recurring tiger of the Kenzo brand was born.

The year of the Tiger

Although Kenzo is generally known for its tiger illustrations, the brand has decided to design a new collection entirely dedicated to the Chinese New Year. The 'Year of the Tiger' collection is a capsule collection. This means it's a limited edition featuring select garments and accessories that can be easily combined.
