The award-winning brand On is now also available at Tip de Bruin! We're celebrating this with a new Brand of the Month blog about this unique Swiss shoe brand. On has one goal: to revolutionize the sensation of running. Since its founding in Zurich in 2010, the brand has been on a mission to change the running world. Three friends, one mission
Olivier Bernhard, also known as Oli, is a former Swiss athlete who founded the brand On with his friends David Alleman and Caspar Copetti. It wasn't just a love of running that brought the three together; their shared dream of creating a unique concept brought the team even closer. Read On's story here!
After retiring from high-level sports, the three-time world champion in duathlon (running and cycling) Olivier decided to focus on finding the ideal running shoe. During his search, he met a Swiss engineer who already had an idea for a new type of running shoe. The two decided to collaborate. Ultimately, this collaboration led to the refinement and improvement of the exclusive running shoes.
Prototype after prototype
Many different prototypes were developed, always focusing on a "cushioned landing" and a "solid takeoff." This successful formula prompted Caspar Copetti and David Alleman to join On. On was officially founded in 2010. Meanwhile, the goal remained to continue developing the shoes entirely in Switzerland. By utilizing the latest technologies, the brand's growth accelerated significantly.
On in a momentum
Just a month after the brand's launch, On won a major award for innovation in sports with several prototypes: the ISPO BrandNew Award. Runners who had already tested the shoes were also immediately enthusiastic. "Running on Clouds" was born. A few months later, the first running stores in Switzerland had On shoes on their shelves.
On has been around for over ten years now, and the shoes are available in over 50 countries worldwide. Many famous athletes also wear the brand's shoes. For example, Roger Federer wears On shoes during important tennis matches (see video here ).
